It was a great place to grow up - very safe for kids and everybody knew you. Used to play at the park a lot, plus over the road at the railway line. We used to get under the bridge when a steam train caome and had smoke billowing all around us. Also loved to go to the taddy hole to catch tadpoles over near the brickworks. We had so much freedom as kids, spent all summer holidays at the pool. Went to the matinee every Saturday afternoon 2/- to get in with sixpence to spend. I could go on, but everyone who has lived at Yallourn knows what I mean - also very safe to walk home in the dark when my sister used to take me to the night time pictures and walk home (I used to feel so grown up!).
