I was very young when we left Yallourn in 1955, but I can remember that we lived on the side of a hill (Tanjil Cres) and that the house was a cream weatherboard and was a semi-detached. We had floor boards and mats and a hall runner throughout. I remember that a lot of the furniture was built by my father who taught Fitting & Turning for 11 years at the Yallourn Tech School. Evidently furniture was hard to come by after the Second World War. The kitchen was quite large and had a black wood fired stove. We had a table and chairs to seat six in the middle of the room.

4 bedroom Conite? - cement sprayed on chicken wire - nice house though. Kitchen had orange vinyl on floor and pale green & cream cupboards. Lounge had yellow carpet and orange curtains. Wall mounted bakelite telephone in hall (too high for children to reach). The walls and ceilings of very room were painted different combinations of pastel colours, no two were alike.
