Girls Under 14 Backstroke. Unfortunately the faces are not shown but I am in lane 8. The club carnivals were great events as shown by the crowd of supporters. My family (Wolff) left Yallourn in January 1966 and I really missed the Swimming Club. Although I was in the swimming team at my new school in Geelong nothing was like the Club at Yallourn....Diane Wolff

John Wolff was an active member of the Swimming Club during the time I was involved in the 1960s. He took part in a veterans 110 meters race at the age of 97 and was still doing his laps up until a few weeks before he passed away aged 103 and 11 months on Christmas day 2016.

I coloured the school photo with my special paints which we had around that time used for colouring black and white photos. I was absent on the day the photo was taken which was remarkable as I think I only missed 2 days of school for the whole of the six years of Primary School - this day in 1958 and the day of the Grade 6 photo in 1962. We went to school no matter what!

My father John Wolff came to Yallourn in 1932. These are some photos he took in the early days of the power station. I remember going with him to the 'boiler room' and the 'control room' where it was much quieter.

The following article was unearthed in the ‘Gippsland Times’ and is in relation to re-training of workers for wartime employment in the essential services of munitions (weapons / ammunition) manufacture.
By 1940, Australia was on a war footing and many industries across the nation were gearing up to supply the needs of the armed forces. In the story below, men (women are not mentioned in the article) were being recruited from across Gippsland for re-training at the Yallourn Technical School for employment in the rapidly changing and expanding munitions industry.

This photograph was taken during a clay modelling/art lesson at Yallourn Technical School sometime in the mid 1950’s. Mr Walsh is the teacher; and the students include: Murray French (left hand side of the photograph) and probably/perhaps David Hoffman, Neville Gapes, Len Hilditch , David Grant and Malcolm Gibson. Thanks to Murray French for his kind assistance in identifying some of the boys in the group. Any readers who recognise other students in the above photo are kindly asked to contact Julie . Thank you. Source: MM10242 Museum Victoria Collections.
