Margaret Mahoney (b 1905) moved to the area that became Yallourn aged 14 with her parents and her dad worked at wood chopping. The town didn't exist as such at this time and Margaret remembered the first building being built and lived there until the late 70s when the town was finished. Later on, when the first power station was being built, her older sister, Mary, moved to Yallourn and operated a hostel at or near the South Camp. Margaret married Thomas O'Connor in 1927 and they lived with Margaret's parents (John (Jack) and Amelia Mahoney in Ridgeway East until 1930. During this time, they had Irene (b Oct 1928) and Mervyn (know as Boysie) (b Dec 1929). Their 3rd child, Brian, was born at this address in June 1937. In 1940, they moved to 13 Latrobe Ave (where 4th child, Kevin, was born Sept 1944).
