First Name
W (Dad)

Neil Crawley's ancestors went to Yallourn at the start to make bricks for the town construction. W H (Dad) Brewer set up and ran the brickworks for the SEC (1918-1920) and later took it over when the SEC didnt require bricks to build the township. When the SEC owned it, the bricks had Yallourn on them and Brewer when Great Grandfather ran it as owner. I think the family sold it to Hoffmans or someone like that. His daughter, Rose, was Neil's grandmother and the mother of Neil's mother, Joyce Withers (born 1920 - Rose had to go to Sale for the birth) who with her two sisters grew up in Yallourn.
Great Grandfather Brewer was a Director of 3TR, which radio station was got up and running by many Yallourn people. It was based at Trafalgar but shifted to Sale at sometime. Also Great Grandmother used to sing on air.
Great Grandfather Brewer was also League President and President of Yallourn Football Club and was awarded Life Membership with a 9 ct gold badge in 1946. The pavillion at the #1 Oval was also named after him and I can remember being there when it was opened by Pat Kennelly, who worked at Yallourn as a Union rep and was banned from entering the town and the works at one stage. He later became the power minister as I recall. W H Brewer died about 1949 and I have a photo of his funeral leaving the Catholic Church at Yallourn. He is buried in the cemetery at Hernes Oak. He lived in Southway from memory and I will send a photo of the house when I locate it.
