I was very young when we left Yallourn in 1955, but I can remember that we lived on the side of a hill (Tanjil Cres) and that the house was a cream weatherboard and was a semi-detached. We had floor boards and mats and a hall runner throughout. I remember that a lot of the furniture was built by my father who taught Fitting & Turning for 11 years at the Yallourn Tech School. Evidently furniture was hard to come by after the Second World War. The kitchen was quite large and had a black wood fired stove. We had a table and chairs to seat six in the middle of the room. The sink was next to the kitchen window which overlooked the steep back garden where dad and mum grew prize winning vegetables. The house also had a wash house/laundry room, a toilet (just off the side entrance), a lounge/sitting room, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The kitchen, lounge and parent bedroom had views over the sloping back garden and over the roof tops of the Yallourn Power Station.
