This is a tribute to both Wilma and Ralph Wicks, wonderful people who were my former parents-in-law, and also a tribute to the gardeners of Yallourn, who in its heyday created such a lovely, well-kept town...and finally, a tribute to my mother, Elna Lerche, a keen gardener, who passed away in 2006. Ralph Wicks was also devoted to his garden in Yallourn. The original, mature, plant was given to my mother by Wilma Wicks in 1969, and was kept in Mum's garden until 2006, when I (Inge) inherited it. The plant moved from Yallourn to Traralgon in 1971, when my parents left Yallourn, and then to Mulgrave in 1979, when they decided to move to Melbourne to be closer to my sister, Tove, and I. I still have the original plant in my garden in Belgrave Heights, and this particular photo is of a cutting I took many years ago and which is now in full bloom today.
