Enduring Love - Gary Smith YHS 1962 It began on a Saturday in the 1950's, about 1pm - my enduring love. It might have been ignited by Grace Kelly or Steve Reeves. It was all there - romance, terror, action, adventure - it cost sixpence. It was worth every penny...I refer to my enduring love of movies (I even owned a video library later).…..but the engine that drove it was the powerhouse Saturday matinee at the Yallourn Theatre. The stuff of dreams - Flash Gordon, Batman, The Shadow, Roy Rogers - the greatest show on earth and all for half a bob. I never had enough money to buy Jaffas and then waste them by rolling them on the floor - truthfully I would have been mortified if Mr Sandilands had needed to shine his torch on me. I longed for a raincoat that could be buttoned at the neck so I could run up and down the aisle at half time...but like the Jaffas and climbing up the outside of the theatre, I left it to the naughty boys. It's no use suing me Ray Loft - I didn't mention you or John Kimberly or Peter Hannon by name. Does any one else remember Franquin the Hypnotist, and Johnny O'Keefe being out the front in person? Oddly, my single favourite moment was the showing of "The Boston Strangler"
